Herman Story Nuts & Bolts Syrah 2021
It's the home stretch of the 12th Annual Moto- cross Exhibition and you're way in the lead. Throw your hands up and revel in the shouts, the raspberry rev of the engine, the needles of fresh cherry rain, the chocolate-covered figs and grilled-berry bourbon floating around the sidelines, the white pepper fireworks at the finish, the honey-tipped roses of the winner's circle. Snatch the trophy and spray the stunned crowd with Champagne, then pop a wheelie as everyone else crosses the line, just to rub it in. Those ten-year-olds didn't stand a chance.
The 2021 Nuts and Bolts is mostly Syrah with a dollop of co-fermented Viognier, wafting up with a pretty yet complex blend of black raspberry, smoky sage and confectionary spice. This flows easily across the palate, juicy and supple, guided by vibrant acidity that propels its ripe red and black fruits. The 2021 finishes dramatically long with chalky tannins and sour citrus hints that add tension. Yet through it all, the mouth waters for more. So much power yet so much freshness. Nicely done.
